Ask coach Fisher a question….

Hey Titans fans. I know you’re frustrated with the Titans season opening loss and you’ve probably got a lot of questions. Well, YOU can ask coach Fisher question. Just submit it to sports@wkrn.com and we’ll pick 3 questions for coach Fisher to answer. The first show is this Friday at 7pm on news 2. We will actually tape the show Thursday night at 7pm. You can be a part of the show by going to Buffalo Billiards. Joe Dubin and a Titan will be there along with great food and fun. I’ll be in studio with coach Fisher. I look forward to passing your questions along to coach Fisher.

I think it is not right what you did to Billy! He was there when Steve was hurt and took us thru the play offs and helped get us to the Superbowl. He waited his turn and the gets demoted. I am going to have a really hard time respecting the Titans now! Very disappointed.

Even though I am very disappointed in the Titans and their decisions I would like to know how you can get a ticket to go to Jeff Fisher live? I would still like to see some of the guests.

You don’t need tickets. You can go to Buffalo Billiards Thursday nights at 7pm to see Titan players.

What is the REAL reason for Volek being completely taken out of the line-up for the game?

That’s what I’d like to know. Did he do or say something that caused him to be benched and not allowed to play? He wasn’t elligible to play… why is that, exactly?

I think that is a horrible thing you did to Billy Volek!!! Why was he being told all summer that he would be the Starting Quarterback and then when the Opener comes he doesn’t even get a snap in? So I want to know WHY he has been moved to the third string QB???!!! What did he do?

If Kerry Collins was brought in to compete with Billy, how did he get the starting job when Billy looked better than Collins in the pre-season and has never looked as bad as Collins did in the opener?
Did you lie about them competing?

  7. Tim said,

    on September 13th, 2006 at 10:02 am

There was no competition between Collins and Volek. They didn’t compete for the start with each other, at all. Which makes no sense. Obviously the coaching staff had no intentions of starting Volek.

I hope Channel 2 will take same approach to the Titans that Neil O’Donnell and Channel 5 are taking: be hard on the Titan organization for their handling of the quarterback situation. It should not be glossed over. Coach Fisher and Reese continual said Billy Volek was their starter this year; WHAT HAPPENED? The paying fans deserve to know!

    To Jeff Fisher,

Are you concerned that if this year doesn’t show improvement, that you or GM Floyd Reese could be out of a job? How do you deal with the pressure and is your relationship with Floyd as bad as some in the media make it out to be? Best of luck in 2006.

    Coach,
What’s your take on the refs flagging Bulluck with a horse collar tackle? He says it wasn’t intended to be an illegal tackle, but instead just the way he fell on the guy. Also, was he fined for the tackle and if so, how much?

Coach, if you could have any quarterback currently playing in the NFL, aside from the 3 on your roster, who would it be. Don’t give us the politically correct “I like our guys” answer. Be honest. Good luck in San Diego.

Coach Fisher, what I felt was missing in today’s debacle in San Diego was leadership both on the field and on the sidelines. I saw Buluck sitting on the bench in the last 2 minutes looking completely dejected, but I never saw him moving around while he was on the field, trying to fire up his fellow players as I remember him doing in the past. Also, I did not see any offensive player calling for the extra effort that has marked the Titans before this year. What I did see was Coach Jeff Fisher on the side lines with his Clark Gable mustache and his cool Hollywood sun glasses but exibiting little if any effort to urge his players on or to encourage his team to fight harder. I would suspect that the entire team and coaching staff will fly into Atlanta late tonight and take an midnight bus back to their homes here in middle Tennessee and hide there until their next lackluster appearance on the football field, or maybe they will spend the week partying on Mission Beach there in San Diego. Incidentally, I put my Titan shirt, hat, etc. in the garbage can today and pulled out my old Dallas Cowboys wear. I feel that the fans of Middle Tennessee have invested not only their money and hopes but their hearts in the Titans and that they deserve much better that what we say today. Sincerely, Ron Thomas, Clarksville, TN ps Collins is not the quarterback to fulfill your dreams. Send him back where he came from.

Coach Fisher, Please, Please explaion to us, the faithful ticket purchasing, team supporting, Titan faithful fans, what the freak did Billy Volek do to warrant such disrespectful treatment. Billy V. vigalantly stood on the sidelines, helping the team in any way necessary, patiently waiting for his chance to play in the big games. He even set NFL records for his first ten starts. And then when the time comes for Billy to get his chance to shine, you or the powers that be (Bud Adams, presumably) pulls the rug out from under Billy by picking up this LOSER Kerry Collins. I think that someone needs to explain (better than NFL experience losing)what the freak did Billy do to deserve such treatment. And as for us (the paying ticket holders) we deserve better than Kerry Collins less than half-ass efforts as a pro. WE DESERVE A LIGIT REASON FOR THE EMBARASSMENT OF BEING A TITANS FAN.

  22. on September 18th, 2006 at 3:25 am

    Dear sports crew,

Collins is 7-27 in his last 34 starts — wow! And can someone explain to me why the Titans decided to get this guy? Did they look at the stats before they signed him? Billy Volek set QB records in his first 10 starts — what makes the Titan coaches think he’s not going to get better?

Perhaps they should take into consideration that Volek has never been supported by this organization. Even when he started, it was a last minute decision — how do you mentally prepare for that? And the Titan coaches never commissioned Volek to be their guy, even in the pre-season. He was demoted right away to “the guy who is standing in until Vince Young is ready.” Try to mentally work through that one!

Volek has gotten every raw deal possible from the coaching staff and then they want him to go out there and perform like Steve McNair. Yet they ignore the fact that, McNair wasn’t even as good as Billy Volek at the same point in his career. After 10 starts, Volek’s stats smoke McNair’s — am I wrong? Yet still, they refuse to support him. They stuck with McNair even when he was losing games for us — why couldn’t they stand behind Volek long enough for him to show us whether or not he is a top quality starter in the league?

Then they throw Kerry Collins at us saying “we need team leadership and Billy doesn’t provide that.” If this is the result of team leadership, I think we’re better off without it!

But here’s what I don’t understand at all… how is it that there is not even the slightest hint of consideration given to the possibility of starting Billy Volek?

Vince Young is a rookie, everybody knows he needs more time in the system and time to get used to the feel of the game at this level. So why do they keep going back to Kerry Collins who was not playing well in his last several seasons, is super rusty from not playing last year and is totally unfamiliar with this offense? At one point in his career he was great, but not now. I think it would say good things about Collins if he would come out and admit that Billy Volek is a better choice for a starting QB right now.

Here’s what Richard Baldinger, the CBS announcer said: “I’m not seeing anything from Kerry Collins that should designate him as a starting quarterback.”

Even if the coaches thought Billy Volek is mediocre, he’s still the best thing we have and yet there is no mention of bringing him in? Even the TV announcers would not mention bringing Volek in. They all say that it was a bad decision to change horses mid-stream but then they say that we should stick with Collins? What did the Titans organization tell the announcers ‘not to say’ in their pre-game meetings?

“Is it a legitimate question to ask why you had a guy with you as a backup for four years and it takes until two weeks before the start of the season when he’s supposed to be your starter to realize that he’s not your guy?” Bill Macatee, CBS.

Has the Mafia threatened the Titans organization that if they bring Volek in there will be painful consequences to unsuspecting tailgaters? Do we have any other conspiracy theory’s that we could draw from?

Last week Neil O’Donnell said it best “is there anyone in the room that thought that the Titan’s would not have a better chance to win with Billy Volek in the game?” So much of the problems have to do with this quarterback controversy which Jeff Fisher says does not exist — only because he won’t let Billy “compete for the job.”

“I’ve always liked Jeff Fisher, the way he coaches, but this is the one thing [the quarterback situation] I disagree with.” Richard Balldinger, CBS.

Is there anyone who can get through to a coach who says “I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing because I believe what I’m doing is right.” He’s still determined to prove that they didn’t make a mistake about Kerry Collins. Yet Kerry has only won 20% of his last 34 starts!!!!??? Can someone make sense of this for me?

“It all comes back to that quarterback situation here. It’s the one position where people are moving people around and putting new people in who haven’t been here. Look at every team that has had their struggles and problems on the field.” Richard Balldinger, CBS.

Any additional insight you have would be appreciated.

Can we just say let’s all move to Indiana. Peyton Manning was once a volunteer. And to hear Jeff Fisher say out loud that Collins will start again. Can we just hand over the wins and not even show up. Why should our guys waste their energy or effort, risk an energy, when we are just trying to set records for interceptions thrown or throw away’s in one quater. How about lack of first downs in a half. Can you say we “suck”!!!!!!I know of some high school teams who have better showings that we spend $6.00 to go watch rather then the Tennessee Titans that we spend what $50.00 to go watch a ticket. Hey Bud Adams, remember the Oilers. Lack of fan support, what does that get ya, talk about salary caps. Guys listen to your fans. Last home game, did you hear the boo’s for Collins? I think if things continue you may hear the crickets at the games, no one will come.

Well. At least Billy Volek could stand up straight.

My favorite team(s)now - for the first time since Titans arrived, are …
    1) Ravens, where Mr McNair isn’t locked out of the weight room; and,
    2) Chargers, where hopefully Mr Volek will not be lied to.
Note to Mr Bullock: You’re an outstanding athlete. Get outta town while you can.

Is Coach Fisher off his meds? Is he mixing meds? The things he has done to the Titans is something that a man going through extreme mid-life crisis and/or medication malfunction would do.
I think he is looking to get fired so he can run with Ricky Williams in LaLa land.

When are the Titans going to get rid of Keith Bullock? He is one of the few Titans left that the fans actually like, and he is a pretty good player, atleast in my opionion anyway, and given the teams history of trading away, releasing, or just not re-signing core players, I figure his time is just about over in Titans Blue… any ideas of when he may go?

Coach Fisher is fumming ? What about the fans ! Someone didn’t practice good football. The only thing the Titans organization has done right this season was getting rid of Calico. Maybe you should bring him back now, so Collins (who can pass) will have someone to play catch with, since Calico never could catch. Volek is smarter than we give him credit…he saw the light. Shame management can’t. I ponder to even imagine what Titans season record will be. At this time…I predict 2 wins only & possibly an empty stadium. Good Luck !

I seem to remember Chris Brown asking/demanding a trade when Lyndale White was drafted; however he is still on the team and still playing. You said on Wednesday night that you refused to play a player who has demanded a trade. That sounds like a double standard to me. Is is perhaps because the city of Nashville was finally ready to see Billy get his chance to lead this team and are totally against a quarterback who has not shown us any consistancy or rhythm with the offense?

  32. Tim said,

    on September 21st, 2006 at 6:11 pm

Fisher said on several occasions there were no plans to trade Billy V and before the start of the season Fisher stated he had not decided who would start the opener. Even though we are now told quite the opposite. So, it seems Fisher was not being honest. So, should we believe what he says now? Today, Bullock and Bennett had good things to say about Billy V’s last few weeks as a Titan. I think Billy V. got a raw deal and Fisher is not being honest. I’m disjusted with this whole thing and it just shows the lack of character with this organization.

I told my son before the first game of the season it looked like the Titans were going to be 16-0 this year. I think I am right. (16 losses and 0 wins!)Do you really blame Volek for wanting to be traded? As for as bringing in Collins because of his experience, why not work out something to keep McNair? At least he is a winner. It looks like the entire coaching staff is completely against having a winning team.

    Coach,
I don’t understand what Collins is teaching Young right now. It seems the only thing he is teaching him is how to lose! We are now 0-3 and Collins is teaching Young how to get it close and then stumble. Couldn’t Young be in there doing the same thing and learning the offense as he loses as well? It makes more sense to play our No. 3 pick and let him take his lumps now if losing is whats going to happen every game this year? (P Manning’s rookie year 3-13) Because next year we don’t have Volek to kick around and blame for a horrible season or offense for that matter. It will be your job or Reese’s.

I can’t begin to imagine the level of stress you must balance with your job. Thank you for giving so much to our city. I know you instantly made Nashville your home when you arrived, because this is where the team was sent, but also, because you wanted to be here and make Tennessee your home.

With that, I’m asking you to fire Albert Haynesworth for his unsportsmanlike (illegal anywhere else in the community) conduct on the field today. There are times when a fine or suspension simply are not enough to send the message that this will not be tolerated.

Help me as an educational administrator in this community to fight this unacceptable behavior that often serves to influence the young boys (and girls) with whom I work. Mr. Fisher, I understand fully that the actions of Haynesworth are none of your fault; that you are in no way responsible for the thoughtless actions of a player who cannot control himself in the moment. However, you have the authority, influence and means to keep it from continuing.

Purge our team of this kind of “new school” imagery that seems to believe it can do anything to anybody anytime - regardless - since the money being made allows one to not truly feel the brunt end of a fine or suspension.

Stay true to your beliefs. Stay true to what you know is right. Stand behind what you’ve always stood for as a player, coach and decent man. Do the right thing for our team and for the children watching.

I can assure, Mr. Fisher, each and everyday, our children are watching.

I thank you for your time.

Considering how the Titans are doing this season and comparing this to how the Ravens are doing with the Titans cast off, Steve McNair, do you think, Coach Fisher, that the Ttians problems are much deeper than just the QB dilemma? Could it be a Coaching Problem??? Stands to reason, doesn’t it? It’s time to get on the stick or get out of town.

  44. Ron Thomas said,

    on October 3rd, 2006 at 9:53 am

Coach, do you not think that Hanesworth’s misbehavior on the field is largely due to the frustrations felt by all the players at the coaching staff’s and team’s miserable performance this season? While I do not condone his behavior and think he deserves any punishment dealt out to him, I still believe that one of the major contributing factors is the management and coaching staff’s performance. I still think it is time for many of you to move on to another city/team where you can screw it up the way you have Nashville and the Titans. I don’t pose this as a question, because I know you will not answer it!

Coach, Realizing of course that Pac-Man is a db, has there been any offensive play design that puts Pac in as a wide receiver for either a slant, deep route or an end around? Seems that with Bobby Wade on one side and Pac with Brandon Jones in the line-up the possible speed would throw a defense off?

  50. Tom Burnside said,

The play just before half-time, appearing that we were going to take a knee, was the snap count a little off as it seemed that Bennett pause a little longer than desired at the side line allowing the Colts db’s to recognize the play and therefore providing the coverage on Drew?

Hi Coach Fisher, I think you need to look for guys that can tackle and make good defensive plays. There is such a guy that plays in the Southern Football League in Atlanta. He plays defensive tackle, stands 6′3″ and 315 pounds of muscles. He was MVP of the league in 05. He plays for the Atlanta Aggressors He played at Cumberland College in Lebanon Tennessee. He is a settle married man. He loves the sport and gives it everything that he got when he steps on the field. I really think you should give him a look, I love the Titans and I really want nothing but the best for the team. You may contact me thought email for more information. I am really frustrated to see some one getting tagged with an “illegal block in the back” penalty and it seems to be happening on every punt or kick off. These guys are professionals and our coaches are some of the best but this keeps happening almost every time. Don’t you get frustrated with this issue? What can you and/or the other coaches do to correct this so the players know you are serious about getting this fixed???

Why was Coach Fisher fined over his comments regarding a questionable call during the Ravens game. Aren’t they allowed to express an opinion, I’ve seen many others do so. The runner was obviously upright when he fumbled the ball. When they said they could not determine who recovered the ball, in my experience who came out of the pile with it was the clear winner at least that’s always been the case in the past. It was entirely possible it was fumbled again or stripped. Whatever the reason, a Titan came out of the pile with the ball in his hands. Why was TN not allowed to keep it.

    Jeff,

What is the deal when one of the Giants had our player on the ground and it looked like he hit him twice with his fist and the ref. just pulled him to the side and talked to him. Do you know why he didn’t throw a flag?

    Also, Awsome game!!!

After watching the Giants choose to avoid PacMan Jones and punt out of bounds in the 4th quarter, the thought occured to me: Why aren’t all punts kicked out of bounds? The chance of recovering a fumble from a punt or forcing the receiving team to lose yardage is so remote, actually kicking the ball to the returner seems like an risky option.
