TITANS MAKE RIGHT CHOICE
Don’t get too teary eyed over Billy Volek’s departure. I don’t have a problem with the man as a person. But as an NFL quarterback he is not all that. I’ve got facts to back it up: He has started 10 games in the NFL and won 3 against bad teams at the time. The Titans traded Billy for a 6th round draft pick. Don’t you think if he was that good the Titans would have received more than a 6th rounder? Billy would have been the starter if he had not gone to Jeff Fisher and asked for a trade after the Titans signed Kerry Collins. But he wanted out and Fisher made the right call by not playing a quarterback who wanted out.
As for Vince Young; who do you want tutoring this young stud? A guy who has won 3 games and started only 10? Or a guy who has thrown for over 33 thousand yards and piloted a team to the Super Bowl? I know Collins looks awful right now, but I feel Titans have picked the best tutor for Young. Let’s be honest. Vince is the future and needs a guy who’s been there done that. Volek has not been there done that.

Try this… maybe the best “tutor” quarterback for Young, might be the one who could show him how to actually win a game. I don’t feel sorry for Billy either. I feel for the rest of the team now. Apparently we are now in a race with the Texans for last place. Pity ! In closing, I also know Coach Fisher is catching all the flak….but trust me….It isn’t all he fault. Titans management…this Bud’s for YOU !

Chris I think your conclusion is rediculous! Volek has proved that he is a first rate quaterback. Have you forgotten that in his limited experience, his stats are far better than Kerry Collins? Collins may have thrown for 33 million yards, but he’s proven that he’s not a good quarterback. He is five interceptions away from his touchdown total! Do you think we want Vince Young to be mentored by a QB who can post a game with a 1.3 passer rating and is one of the most intercepted quarterbacks in NFL history? We would be better off having Neil O’Donnell as Young’s mentor! You’re also not taking into consideration the other problems the Titans have had as a team in those years when Volek started. In the games Volek played, how many losses could you actually pin directly on him? Did he do his job in those games? Stats say yes — one of the best quarterbacks to ever take the field in his first 10 starts — is it his fault the Titans lost? What about all the other losses in the last two years at the hands of an NFL MVP — Steve McNair? Volek was mentored by McNair — is he a lousy quarterback? He also piloted his team to a Super Bowl and has thrown for zillions of yards. What about the game where Volek stepped in for McNair to bring the Titans back from a 28-7 deficit to win against the Falcons? Add to this the fact that Volek has never been fully supported by the staff and every game he started was a last minute appointment with little or no time for mental preparation. He still excelled under those difficult circumstances. Fisher was disgruntled with Volek, that’s why he brought Collins in — why wouldn’t BV want to be traded under those circumstances?
Fisher said he wanted Volek to compete for his starting position again? Come on. I completely disagree with your comments.

By the way, the Titans traded an NFL MVP, Pro Bowl quarterback Steve McNair for a fourth round draft pick as a starter. If Volek becomes a starter, the Titans will get a 5th round pick in trade for him — not bad for a lowly back up who isn’t worth anything. You couldn’t get anywhere near that good of a trade for Collins!! The Titans could have easily beat the Jets with Volek at the helm.

I do agree that the Titans should have given Billy Volek a chance as quarterback. He did a good job for the team when McNair was unable to play. I do not believe he was treated fair. Too late now though. I wish him good luck with his new team.
