…..2007 Nashville Predators Conditioning Camp

Chris Brown is Back….

The Titans and Running Back Chris Brown agreed to a contract today. It is believed to be a one year deal. This is great news for the Titans who need more than a little help at running back. Travis Henry is gone, LenDale White did not have a productive off-season in the training room, and rookie Chris Henry is,,,,,,,,a rookie.

Brown brings instant depth and credebility to the Titans offense. He rushed for nearly 2000 yards over the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Last year he only played in five games after Travis Henry got hot.

I spoke with Jeff Fisher today and the coach told me he was happy about Chris coming back and that Chris is happy about coming back. Brown is expected to dress for Tuesday’s minicamp at the Titans complex.

………Nashville Does it Right…

Gotta give a big, huge thumbs up to what Music City opened today. Along with Nashville’s Metro Parks and some help from Dell Computer, the city opened 5 brand new soccer fields today, that will benefit our great city in so many ways.

Here is the website for more info on our city’s parks, which have to rival other cities with great parks around the country.

ENJOY! AND GET OUTSIDE!!!

DAVID PRICE TOP PICK IN MLB DRAFT

David Price is bringing his blazing fastball and sizable shoe
collection to Tampa Bay.
The hard-throwing left-hander out of Vanderbilt was selected by
the Devil Rays with the No. 1 pick in the baseball draft Thursday.
Price went 11-1 with a 2.63 ERA and Division I-leading 194 strikeouts in his junior season
for the Commodores. He accumulated several awards and about 50
pairs of shoes - size 13 - during his three years at Vanderbilt.
Price is the fourth left-hander taken with the top pick, and
first since Brien Taylor went to the New York Yankees in 1991.

Price’s teammate Casey Weathers was selected 8th overall by the Colorado Rockies.
Other players of note that were drafted in the first round, included 3 Tennessee Vols.
JP Arecenbia went 21st overall to the Toronto Blue Jays, Julio Borbon will head to Texas after being selected 35th overall and shortly after Mt. Juliet native James Adkins was drafted by the LA Dodgers.

Vandy’s Dream Season Over…….

Michigan stunned Hawkins field Monday night with a 4-3 win over top ranked Vanderbilt. Freshman pinch hitter Alan Oaks hit a David Price fastball in the center field seats with one out in the 10th inning.

Pedro Alvarez nearly tied it up in the bottom of the tenth, but missed a home run by an inch or two. So Vandy’s season comes to an end. That’s the bad news, the good news………….They are on the map and will only get better. When David Price goes number one later this week in the MLB Draft Vandy will always be able to use that with potential recruits. When the recruits see the Dores baseball facility it will solidify that Vanderbilt is an elite program.

Tonight is a tough pill to swallow, but the future is very bright for Commodores Baseball.

LADY VOLS SOFTBALL EARNS BERTH INTO TITLE GAME

No. 1 and fifth-seeded Tennessee’s (62-6) perfect roll through the Women’s College World Series continued in front of 6,949 fans at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium on Sunday afternoon as the Lady Vols defeated No. 6 and second-seeded Northwestern (52-13), 3-0, to secure the program’s first ever berth in the WCWS Championship Series.
The Lady Vols have finished 3rd in the national tournament the past two years and will open their best of 3 series against Arizona on Monday night at 7 o’clock Nashville time. Tennessee beat Arizona 1 to nothing in their 2nd game in the tournament.

DELMONICO OUT IN KNOXVILLE

University of Tennessee Athletics Director Mike Hamilton announced Sunday that Rod Delmonico has been released from his contract as the Volunteers’ head baseball coach. A national search for a successor will begin immediately.

“Earlier today I informed coach Rod Delmonico of my intention to take the baseball program in a different direction,” Hamilton said. “I appreciate the job Rod has done for the University of Tennessee. During his tenure, three appearances in the College World Series, a number of great wins and numerous great players have provided our fans with many fond memories.

Contractually, the university is obligated to pay Delmonico his annual base salary for the three years remaining on his contract, as well as one year’s worth of additional compensation for broadcast, equipment, shoe and apparel pay. That total is $430,000 payable over 12 months in equal installments.

Delmonico posted a 699-396 overall record in 18 seasons at Tennessee, including a 263-255 mark in regular-season SEC play.

VANDERBILT BEATS MICHIGAN 10-7

Top seeded Vanderbilt fought off elimination by outlasting second seeded Michigan 10-7 in NCAA Regional action Sunday night at Hawkins Field. The Commodores and Wolverines will square off one final time Monday night at 6 p.m. CT for the right to advance to next weekend’s Super Regional.
This is easily the biggest game in Vanderbilt history to date as they try to keep their hopes alive for a national title. The Black & Gold awoke from an offensively slumber on Sunday racking up a total of 22 runs in 2 games. Tim Corbin will have to keep his guys in the same mindset to produce runs, the biggest question is how will the Dores approach the pitching situation? I’m sure Coach Corbin has something up his sleeve.
All of Vanderbilt’s games during this NCAA Regional have been sellout crowds, if you haven’t been out to Hawkins Field. Tomorrow night will definetly be the one to go to.

Vandy beats Govs in extra inning thriller………

The top ranked Vanderbilt Commodores got a big scare from Austin Peay Friday night. But they are number one for a reason………. The Govs took David Price deep in the 9th inning to the game at one and send it to extra innings. But the Dores scored on a two our error in the bottom of the 11th to secure a 2-1 win. Vandy plays Michigan Saturday at 7pm. Austin Peay plays Memphis at 2pm.

David Price struck out 17 in 9 innings. Austin Peay’s Shawn Kelley was brilliant against the #1 team in the nation. The only run he gave up in 10 innings was a wild pitch in the 6th. This Kelley kid is the real deal. Reminds me of a young Curt Schilling.

We’ll have somplete post game coverage tomorrow morning on News 2 Weekend and tomorrow night on news 2 at 6pm.
