My Name Is Cory
If you’ve ever seen the show “My Name Is Earl” you know all about karma. The show is premised on good things happening to good people. Some people believe in it, some don’t. I do, that’s why I keep telling Vanderbilt Baseball Coach Tim Corbin his day is coming.
He has completely revamped Vanderbilt baseball in a very, very short period of time. The Commodores were an SEC doormat for years and their facility was an absolute joke. Now they’re among the most respected teams in the country and while the team has changed Corbin has not. Always gracious, always polite, always accomodating.
Still he’s never led the Commodores to Omaha for the College World Series and that is a fact that eats at his soul on a daily, no, probably an hourly basis. I’m not sure if he’s still over the disappointment of their 2007 loss to Michigan.
I had the opportunity to cover Ray Tanner when he took over the South Carolina Gamecocks in the 90’s. They were in similar shape and went thru a similar transformation with similar heartbreak and Tanner just like Corbin is one heck of a nice guy.
It happens and one day it did for Tanner, after a few close calls his Gamecocks finally made it and after that made it again and again. That’s been my message to Coach Corbin, keep what you’re doing, stay who you are and one day it will happen and once it does it all feels better, it makes the future a whole lot easier and trip number 2 will come a whole lot faster.
His name is Tim… One day he’ll put the right team on the field and Karma will take care of the rest.
