Titans Fans...Relax! It was funny...

Wow…Head Coach Jeff Fisher is taking the heat for taking it off. At Tuesday’s Rally for Rockettown Charity Event on the David Lipscomb campus, the head man introduced former Colts Head Coach and keynote speaker on the day, Tony Dungy.
Fisher commented on how hot it is was in the room, and then took his jacket and shirt off revealing….a Peyton Manning jersey. His quote…”I just wanted to feel like a winner.”

There are some Titans fans that are outraged at the act. One of our viewers wrote our sports department and said that it was wrong and in bad taste. Another person called to say they think Jeff Fisher needs to look in the mirror because there is nothing funny about this season.

I say, lighten up Titans fans! Sometimes when you’re at absolute rock bottom, you just have to laugh at yourself…and that’s exactly what Coach Fisher did today. His role at that event was to introduce Tony Dungy, the guy who coached Peyton Manning. In his mind, it was a tribute to Dungy.

On Tuesday night’s Titans on 2 Jeff Fisher Show, host John Dwyer showed the video, and several “boos” rang out at Opry Mills. Fisher responded with this…

“Oh, come on now, who’s booing?! I thought it would only be fitting to recognize Tony and have a little bit of fun with it. And it was fun and I would do it all over again out of my respect for Tony and Michael and the cause today, but apparently I’ve offended a few people. You know you need to let that go. This is out of my respect for Tony and just having a little fun for a very very worthwhile charity.”

Let it go. Amen.

It was a funny way of honoring Dungy, a guy he has the utmost repsect for! I will say, at a miserable 0-6, he probably should have left out the comment on now “feeling like a winner”, but it’s still all in fun. Who knows, maybe his jersey reveal will help to light a fire under his team’s you know what…..

And hey, at least it was the jersey of a former Tennessee Vol…

Titans fans, what do you think?

Uh, that is not what Fisher said. If you are paraphrasing it, at least say that. He said “Apparently I offended a few people, but you’ve gotta let that go. This was in respect to Tony and had just a little fun with a very worthwhile charity. ”

Hey Aditya! Thanks for responding! That quote I put in this blog is word for word what Jeff Fisher said on Titans on 2 Tuesday night. I sat and listened to it as I typed it in, so no I am not paraphrasing it. I will have the soundbite posted to this blog tomorrow so you can see it! Thanks!

No, not funny at all. Why don’t you show up to WKRN with a WSMV shirt after WKRN falls to last-place in the ratings, and see if you’re employed the next day?

There’s nothing “fun” about this season. I’m disgusted and, considering you’re present each week at the Jeff Fisher TV show, you should be as well after watching the excuses, arrogance, and general stubborn, dismissive attitude that has gotten worse as the season has advanced.

When your owner calls Sunday’s game the “low point in franchise history,” you don’t go making jokes, anywhere, to anyone, for any reason. And obviously, if Vince Young, or a contract-year Keith Bulluck, or any other player was seen wearing a jersey of another team and making jokes about “wanting to feel like a winner,” there’d be hell to pay.

Jeff Fisher is different this year. The arrogance and stubbornness will be stomped out of him as if he’s the Terrible Towel. Pride goes before a fall, and Fisher may go by the end of the fall if we’re lucky.

Hey Dawn…Gene Chizik just introduced Nick Saban at a charity event down in ‘Bama while wearing a John Parker Wilson jersey! He said he did it because he wanted to feel like a winner! Isn’t that hilarious??? See, it’s funny because Auburn sucks.

Way to go Dawn…the fans who are angry need to get a life… this is sport and entertainment not real life. The same fans probably think VY is capable of being an NFL quarterback.

You are one of the few sports commentators in this town that is willing to take a stand call it as you see it. Good Job!

I think Jeff said exactly what most Titans fans are thinking. He’s a great coach and it seems he is trying to motivate the players. And yes Peyton Manning is a winner! Look at the stats. This was hilarious and brillant, now the players just need to take that anger out on the field and win a game before we become the new Detroit Lions.

I totally disagree Dawn. We pay good money to support the Titans and to see the head coach go and do this, neither funny nor smart. It is not a funny way to honor Dungy, did you have to be funny that way? Jeff Fisher probably thought he would get a pass on this from the media in this town that kisses his butt but thank goodness it was picked up in papers and blogs everywhere.

To all you clowns that are taking this so seriuosly please go on a walkabout and “get a life.” This is sports people and coach Fisher is supporting one of his friends. All over the world other sports exchange jerseys to show respect for one another. Maybe football has lost its “class” along with some of its fans!
