Welcome Back Bo

I know I’m not the only one perplexed by Bo Scaife’s absence the first month of O-T-A’s, but it doesn’t make it any less strange. Sure he “wants” a long term deal, but he couldn’t get one making anywhere near what he will this season, $4.9-million. It all comes down to signing bonus I guess. For many players they want the big number attached to their name, like Albert Haynesworth. Sure his contract is a $100,000,000 and he likes seeing that next to his name, but the “only” part he’ll see is the guaranteed $48,000,000. It’s an ego thing.

Speaking of ego, maybe it’s also that he’s a 6th year pro now and just figures he’s earned the right to miss a few if wants to. I can understand that, his work ethic has never been questioned, but this is a transition period for this team and a time for new leaders to emerge. He can’t be one if he’s not here.

Anyway, welcome back Bo. Hopefully, this season provides him what he wants most, a long term deal…

The Case For CJ

Life after the flood… After 2 weeks of flood coverage we are back to a normal shift and the sports talk is starting to heat back up. In Nashville, there’s really just once story and it rhymes with “ris- ohnson”… Titans star Chris Johnson has been a no-show so far at OTA’s (Organized Team Activities) and has indicated he wants a new contract. What no one knows is will this carry over into training camp?

In just his 2nd NFL season Johnson rushed for 2,000 yards. I get it, he’s outplayed his contract. I have 2 questions though. First, if had rushed for only 200 yards would he be offering to give some of his original contract back and why not be here and negotiate in good faith? I would not negotiate with him if he were not here.

Now, having said that, like I said, I get it. The shelf life of an NFL running back is not long. A 30th birthday is like a death sentence. He has to get paid while he can and made it a point to get him 2,000 yards and they had to know what would come with that. He’s scheduled to make a little over $500,000 this season and probably should make 10 times that.

Who do you believe? That’s the other question I’ve got. Johnson’s teammates all believe he’ll be there when camp comes around and the organization leads you to believe he’ll be taken care of. They also led us to believe the same thing about Kyle Vanden Bosch and he’s in Detroit. Right now, I don’t believe anyone.
