FISHER PICKS GIANTS…..ASK THE COACH

Jeff Fisher said tonight on Titans on 2 that in his mind the Giants win was the most dramatic of the last three. Fisher said you can’t really compare the three, but the 21 point fourth quarter comeback gets his vote for most dramatic. Fisher also said that he can’t remember looking forward to a game like he is looking forward to Sunday’s tilt with the Jaguars. Both teams are still alive for thep layoffs even though the Jaguars at 8-5 have a better handle on their destiny. The Titans need to run the table and hope several other teams implode the final three weeks. It is hard to believe that 13 of 16 AFC teams are still alive for the postseason.

Have a great weekend everyone and I hope to see you Sunday night on Sports Extra at 10:30pm.

Who will run Sunday? Ask the Coach…..

Coach Jeff Fisher has told us all year what a luxury it is to have 3 capable backs in the Titans stable. Travis Henry did not practice today and may not go this Sunday against Jacksonville. LenDale White is coming off a hip flexor injury and is still a question mark even though he did not practice Wednesday. If neither can go Chris Brown is ready to roll. Brown filled in for White last Sunday in Houston and played a huge roll in the Titans win. He averaged 11 yards a carry and picked up two crucial first downs. Enjoy it this year, because you probably won’t see this much running back depth next year.

Don’t forget you can ask coach Fisher a question right here. We’ll ask him Friday at 7pm on Titans on 2 with Jeff Fisher.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR……VINCE YOUNG

Can anybody argue that Vince Young should already be given the NFL rookie of the year award? All he’s done on a team that wasn’t supposed win is win 6 games. SIX! That’s more than Troy Aikman and Peyton Manning combined their rookie seasons. Remember all that “mechanics” talk. Vince throws one of the prettiest balls in the NFL. Yes, he is doing most of his damage on the ground, but he has completed nearly 65% of his passes the last month. Good football teams cannot seem to stump this guy. This guy looks like a seasoned pro with 10 starts under his belt. I’d lik to know if you think anybody else truly deserves rookie of the year. If you do, I’d like to know why.

Homecoming Special! Ask Coach Fisher

I keep saying “I can’t believe this guy”. Vince Young did it again. This rookie quarterback phenom already has 3 4th quarter or overtime game winning drives. He is a long way from John Elway’s record of 47, but 3 as a rookie is nothing short of amazing.

Young not only led the Titans on a 4th quarter 88 yard go ahead touchdown drive, he said forget the field goal in overtime and slithered his way in from 39 yards for a game winning touchdown. It is to the point were I am beginning to wonder if this will be the shortest learning process of any rookie quarterback in NFL history. I know there will be bumps. He did throw a rookie INT against the Texans Sunday, but it didn’t cost them the game. When you consider he has won 4 straight, the last 3 in pressure packed comeback situations, and is 6-4 as a starter, you really can’t put a cap on his future. If this guy stays healthy there is no telling how many games he’ll win. I won’t lock him in for a Super Bowl win, but I’ll be shocked if the Titans don’t make it there with Vince Young as quarterback sometime in very near future. The reason I won’t lock him in for a Super Bowl Win: Dan Marino and Peyton Manning.

Don’t forget you can ask coach Jeff Fisher a question right here. He’ll answer most of them on Titans on 2 with Jeff Fisher every Friday night at 7pm.

Houston is going nuts!

I received a call from a good friend in Houston tonight. He told me Texans fans are going out of their minds. You know the reason……. The more Vince Young wins, the more frustrated Texans fans get. Just in case you don’t remember the Texans picked first in the NFL draft and passed on native son Vince Young and Reggie Bush. They Selected Mario Williams. Texans fans have been told time and time again that David Carr is their man. Problem is, Carr is in his 5th season and the Texans have only won 4 games this year. 2 against Jacksonville. Any NFL fan knows if you haven’t started to turn the corner your 5th year it ain’t gonna happen! I can’t blame Texans fans for being so upset.

Just ask a Portland Trailblazer fan how they felt about the 1984 NBA Draft. The Trailblazers picked Kentucky big man Sam Bowie with the 2nd overall pick. The 3rd pick in that draft,,,,,Michael Jordan. And don’t give me that “they had Clyde Drexler.”

You’ll probably hear more cheers for Vince and the Titans this Sunday. All the Titans care about is their 4th straight win.

TITANS END COLTS STREAK! ASK THE COACH???

If you didn’t believe the Titans have turned the corner last week, maybe this week will make a believer out of you. If not, maybe you should start rooting for the Raiders. Rob Bironas nailed a 60 yarder with :06 to go. That is the 4th longest field goal in NFL history. It wasn’t easy as the Colts built a 14-0 lead late in the 2nd quarter. But the Titans kept chipping away scoring the go ahead touchdown early in the 4th quarter. The defense held the Colts to a field goal before Bironas hit his 2nd straight game winner. The Titans have won 5 of their last 7 and are only two games out of the sixth playoff spot in the AFC. It is still a long shot for them to make the postseason, but the fact that we are talking about this is amazing. Not many thought this team would win five games all season. Last week I asked you if the Titans could run table. After Sunday’s win I think they might.

Don’t forget you can ask Coach Fisher a question. He denied a report that the TItans have offered him an extension after Sunday’s game. He also told me the last six weeks have been his most rewarding as a coach.

By the way, the coach loves X’s and O’s questions.

Comeback for the ages! Ask Coach Fisher…

Did you leave LP Field before the Titans comeback Sunday? If you did you missed one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history. Here’s the proof: The Titans 21 point 4th quarter comeback ties them for the 3rd biggest 4th quarter comeback in NFL history. I’m still shaking my head. Even Coach Fisher, who is usually stoic in wins or losses, said “WOW” to begin his post game press conference.

So how is Vince Young doing? Let me tell you this much. Troy Aikman was 1-15 as the Cowboys starter his rookie season. Peyton Manning was 3-13 with 28 interceptions his rookie season. Vince Young is 4-4 after eight starts. He’s already passed Manning and Aikman for rookie wins.

Keith Bulluck said the Titans will probably run the table. If they do they would finish the season 9-7. Some years that is good enough for a wild card spot in the playoffs. Do you think they will run the table? After Sunday’s come from behind win anything is possible.

Ask Coach Fisher???

Coach Jeff Fisher will answer your questions every Friday on Titans on 2 with Jeff Fisher. Just ask the question on this blog and we’ll get them to the coach who always answers them in detail. Please note that if we don’t use a question this week that doesn’t mean it won’t get asked. We can always ask them next week.

Collins a True Pro

Spoke with Kerry Collins this week and I have to say this guy is the epitome of an old school professional. Collins was thrown into a fire covered in gasoline earlier this year and he nearly led the Titans to a season opening win over the Jets and then again in Miami.

I asked him how he was doing and handling his new role as a backup. He says he’s doing everything he can to help this team win. I know that is a cliche, but this guy really means that. He didn’t come here to be the season opening starter, but he was, and he took a lot of flack from the fans and media. He understands that comes with the job description. He also understands his job now is to help mold Vince Young. He may not be the best guy you can think of to mentor a young quarterback, but he sure is doing a great job. Aside from the Dallas loss, the Titans could easily be 2-1 with Vince as the starter. You can tell Vince repsects this guy because of what he’s been through as an NFL quarterback. When you respect someone you can a learn a lot from them.

Oh, and one other thing. Kerry Collins has not complained one second since he’s been in Nashville.

He deserves a tip of the cap.

I’m Sorry!

Albert Haynesworth learned a valuable lesson Sunday. It’s too bad that lesson has given the Titans a boat load of bad publicity. What stinks about this foot stomping escapade is that Albert seemed to have turned to corner from spoiled athlete to a solid team leader. His maturation process got slammed into reverse after his actions Sunday.
We will never be able to find an excuse to excuse what he did. I don’t care if Gurode grabbed his male parts and twisted 20 times Sunday. A lot of things happen at the bottom of an NFL pile. But thousands of players before Albert have retaliated during the course of play or at the bottom of the pile after the whistle has blown.

If Albert is really sorry for what he did he should start a foundation for underprivileged kids in Nashville and whatever foundation Andre Gurode would like to start in Dallas.
