Titans vs. Seahawks in HD!
OK, we’re only days away from the preseason opener and the biggest news for us isn’t what we’ll bring you on the field, but how we will bring it to you. For the first time we’ll bring you the Titans preseason games in HIGH DEFINITION.
We got more than a call or two the last couple of years with the same questions, why no HD and will it happen. Well the answer is it will happen now!
For a few years HD was a luxury in broadcasting sports, but as time has gone on and technology has improved and become more affordable it has become expected. It isn’t cheap on our end, but it’s the price of doing business in 2010.
We are very excited about Saturday night’s game in Seattle and we hope you enjoy it… In HD!
Saban Unloads On Agents
Yesterday Nick Saban made national headlines calling agents who put college athletes in jeopardy “pimps”. Good for him. More and more coaches, athletic directors and administrators are talking about the problem of agents and college players and for good reason, the NCAA found out.
Yes, now that the NCAA is looking and half of the SEC is potentially in trouble everyone is uphauled!!! This is a pretty complicated issue though.
The schools and coaches are making MILLIONS off of these kids and I don’t see how they look much better in this scenario. I know the kids get an education and I agree, that is extremely valuable. It’s worth about $250,000 at Vanderbilt! However, college football has evolved over the years.
As each year goes by the television money gets bigger and bigger and the NCAA makes more and more from video game rights, jersey sales and other merchandise. In other words, the schools, coaches and NCAA make more every year from these kids, but they continue to work for the same wage. I know, tuition rises, but it’s not the same.
I work with a guy named Bob Ivy, I don’t often agree with him (he’s a Cardinals fan) but he actually had a good idea. Pay the players for the time they spend with the team. For each hour they practice or play during the week they would get paid an hourly wage. Even if it was $8 an hour, that would be about $160 a week. The athletes are not allowed to “work” during their season, but they’re already working aren’t they? Pay them. No, I don’t expect you to all agree and yes, I know, it’s messy.
Lebron-a-thon 2010
Here I sit at 4 PM and Lebron-a-thon 2010 is near an end. Tonight just after 8 PM locally Lebron James will formally announce where he’s playing next season. Reports are it’s Miami with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh.
I’ve thought all along he’ll end up staying in Cleveland and while I’m probably wrong I’ll stick with it and here’s why. I believe his ego is big enough to leak “Miami” so that tonight he can SHOCK the world and gain legendary status in Cleveland. He’ll be the guy who just couldn’t turn his back on his hometown turning down the glamour and glitz of New York, Miami and Chicago.
If he goes to Miami it will be interesting to see just how successful that chemistry is. He and Wade both demand the ball a lot and play a similar game. I think Chicago and New York are better fits right now for what they have on the court, but last I checked he hadn’t called for my opinion.
Wherever he’s headed, I won’t be watching tonight. I’ll find out at 8:10 and 15 seconds instead of just 8:10 because it will sweep the internet and television as it’s happening.
I am honestly a little disappointed in James. This is an extremely “diva” like move from a guy without a championship. It wreaks of “look at me!!!!” and that just rubs me the wrong way. Michael Jordan never needed to do it, he just needed to win and he’s probably a pretty good example to follow on the court.
More Than A Goal?
Congratulations to the United States soccer team for their thrilling victory over Algeria at the World Cup. It’s one of those moments that truly reflects the greatness of sports.
While I don’t think a tie or loss would have killed U.S. Soccer, I don’t think that win is going to propel soccer into amazing golden age in our country either. One goal doesn’t make someone love a sport. Joe Carter didn’t “make” baseball with his World Series homer, Dwight Clark didn’t “make” the NFL with his catch versus the Cowboys and Landon Donovan’s goal won’t define U.S. Soccer. The U.S. was suppose to make it this far, beating England, Argentina or Germany that would indicate to Americans we have arrived.
I’m not a huge soccer fan, so of course I had people telling me I had no right to be excited. I competely disagree. I have national pride and was excited to see “our” team win and it was dramatic. Go USA!
Don’t forget you can see the U.S. versus Ghana Saturday at 1:00 PM right here one News 2!!!
CJ and Me
Tomorrow is the day we’ve been waiting for all summer, it’s our first chance to talk with Chris Johnson. Johnson has skipped all of the Titans’ workouts this summer as he continues to plead his case for a new contract.
He’s been working out on his own in Florida all year, but is back tomorrow for his annual football camp at BGA. It’s safe to say every media outlet in Middle Tennessee will be there, but we’re scheduled for a rare opportunity to sit down 1 on 1 with the Titans star.
I’ve always found Chris to be friendly and relatively easy to talk to, but I really am wondering how he’ll handle this one. During this “mini-holdout” he hasn’t had a lot of nasty things to say and hasn’t seemed angry, he simply sounds like a guy who wants more money. We’ll see if that tone changes at all tomorrow.
We’ll bring as much of it as we can to tomorrow at 6 and 10! We’ll see you then!!!
Blown Call Aftermath
OK, we’ve all seen it by now and it’s not even an argument, Jim Joyce blew the call. I know it, you know it and he knows it. It cost Armondo Galarraga a perfect game and that stinks, but unfortunately that’s life and sometimes life isn’t fair.
Commissioner Bud Selig has decided against “reversing” the call and for that I say, “BRAVO”!!! It happened, move on. What if it happened in the 5th inning, the 6th, the 1st? It really wouldn’t be any different. Calls are missed all the time and this one didn’t cost anyone the game.
If we’re going to switch this one, why not go back to 1985 and reverse Don Dekinger’s call and make the Cardinals World Series champs? Sounds fair to me and as an unfortunate Cubs fan, I hate the Cardinals.
My point is this, Joyce didn’t blow the call on purpose and until we are all perfect let’s just settle down a little bit. Changing baseball history is not a good precedent to set, changing the way it’s called may be. What does that mean? Just put instant replay in the game and give each team one challenge and be done with it!!!!
Welcome Back Bo
I know I’m not the only one perplexed by Bo Scaife’s absence the first month of O-T-A’s, but it doesn’t make it any less strange. Sure he “wants” a long term deal, but he couldn’t get one making anywhere near what he will this season, $4.9-million. It all comes down to signing bonus I guess. For many players they want the big number attached to their name, like Albert Haynesworth. Sure his contract is a $100,000,000 and he likes seeing that next to his name, but the “only” part he’ll see is the guaranteed $48,000,000. It’s an ego thing.
Speaking of ego, maybe it’s also that he’s a 6th year pro now and just figures he’s earned the right to miss a few if wants to. I can understand that, his work ethic has never been questioned, but this is a transition period for this team and a time for new leaders to emerge. He can’t be one if he’s not here.
Anyway, welcome back Bo. Hopefully, this season provides him what he wants most, a long term deal…
The Case For CJ
Life after the flood… After 2 weeks of flood coverage we are back to a normal shift and the sports talk is starting to heat back up. In Nashville, there’s really just once story and it rhymes with “ris- ohnson”… Titans star Chris Johnson has been a no-show so far at OTA’s (Organized Team Activities) and has indicated he wants a new contract. What no one knows is will this carry over into training camp?
In just his 2nd NFL season Johnson rushed for 2,000 yards. I get it, he’s outplayed his contract. I have 2 questions though. First, if had rushed for only 200 yards would he be offering to give some of his original contract back and why not be here and negotiate in good faith? I would not negotiate with him if he were not here.
Now, having said that, like I said, I get it. The shelf life of an NFL running back is not long. A 30th birthday is like a death sentence. He has to get paid while he can and made it a point to get him 2,000 yards and they had to know what would come with that. He’s scheduled to make a little over $500,000 this season and probably should make 10 times that.
Who do you believe? That’s the other question I’ve got. Johnson’s teammates all believe he’ll be there when camp comes around and the organization leads you to believe he’ll be taken care of. They also led us to believe the same thing about Kyle Vanden Bosch and he’s in Detroit. Right now, I don’t believe anyone.
Do or Die For Preds
The Nashville Predators have faced this situation four times before and each time they’ve come up empty. It’s an elimination game tonight for Nashville against the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 6 of their 1st round Stanley Cup playoff series.
It’s not just any Game 6 though, this one comes after the most gut-wrenching, heartbreaking, emotional loss in team history. How they respond will absolutley determine the outcome tonight.
The fans will have their backs tonight at Bridgestone, this one’s already a sellout.
If, that’s if the Preds can somehow shake it off and get the win tonight anything can happen in a
Game 7. That would be in Chicago Wednesday night.
Looks like Patric Hornqvist could give it a go tonight. He skated this morning and spoke to reporters this morning, something he hasn’t done since Game 1. Hornqvist was the Preds leading scorer this season with 30 goals.
They drop the puck just after 8:00! Can’t wait!!!
Vols Lose QB Stephens
They’re thru 8 practices at the University of Tennessee this spring and they’re already down to only 2 quarterbacks, neither of which played at Tennessee last year!
Today Head Coach Derek Dooley announced Redshirt Senior Nick Stephens is leaving the program. Stephens doesn’t like the competition in Knoxville and wants to be guaranteed a starting spot somewhere his Senior season. That’s understandable, but personally rubs me completely the wrong way.
It’s down to Juco transfer Matt Simms and Freshman Tyler Bray who just enrolled this semester. That’s 5 new starting offensive lineman and now a major question mark at quarterback. Welcome to the SEC Coach Dooley!!!
