5 Wildcats Bolt For NBA
It’s one and done indeed at Kentucky. 5 Wildcats have announced their leaving early for the NBA including All-American Freshmen John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins. Also leaving are Freshmen Eric Bledsoe, Daniel Orton and Junior Patrick Patterson.
They were the core of a team that went 35-3 this season advancing to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament. None of the players decisions have to be considered surprising, they all have until May 8th to change their minds unless they’ve hired an agent.
Wall is expected to go first and Cousins could be second.
Could Haynesworth Return To Titans?
It’s just the latest hot rumor to hit the NFL, but right now that’s it… Albert Haynesworth returning to the Titans. This week word leaked out the Redskins are already tired of Haynesworth’s attitude and his first meeting with new head coach Mike Shannahan did not go well. The Skins reportedly offered him to Philadelphia as part of the Donovan McNabb trade and will continue to shop him prior to the draft.
Tennessee is a natural landing point according to the “experts” because this is where he had a couple of career years. I find it hard to believe it will happen though. Yes, the Redskins have already paid him a huge amount of money, but are the Titans willing to take on the rest of it and what does Washington want in return?
It’s really a shame, sad really. Haynesworth has the ability to be one of the dominant players in the game. One of those guys names that immediately comes out when you talk about “elite” players. He was motivated for 2 seasons and was absolutely devistating on the field, a difference maker. The truth is though he’s the same Haynesworth that spat on South Carolina when he left for Tennessee… The same Haynesworth who came to the Titans with baggage… The same Haynesworth who magically produced when he was in a contract year…. And the same Haynesworth who forgot about how the Titans stood by him after he stomped on another players head. He’ll stay the same Haynesworth until he takes a look in the mirror and realizes why he’s always so unhappy…
What A Game!!!
Duke wins the National Championship 61-59, but not without a heroic effort from the Butler Bulldogs… The NCAA Tournament is arguably the best event in sports and this tournament may seal the deal.
Talk is they’ll expand the tournament to 96 year. My first reaction is leave a great thing alone, but change happens. It hasn’t always been a field of 65, 64 or 32, yet it remains great and moves on.
Congrats to John Dwyer… The Butler grad has a lot to be proud of and so does college basketball.
Free Agency Slow Going For Titans
I don’t think Titan fans get frustrated with free agency anymore, they simply know the Titans won’t get involved. OK, maybe that’s not fair. They ARE involved, just now with the A-list free agents and I don’t blame them.
They just don’t make this up as they go along, they know exactly who’s going to be available and who they’re going after to fit their needs. This year there are more than a few needs, especially on defense and they’ve signed 3 defensive players, but only 1 starter. Will Witherspoon will start at linebacker taking up the spot either vacated by Keith Bulluck or David Thornton. The other 2 additions are defensive end Jason Babin and cornerback Tye Hill who agreed to terms today. Both should provide depth.
None of these guys are gamechanges though and the Titans defense appeared to desperately need one last season, especially on the pass rush. So, what’s the plan? Clearly that has to be better and with Kyle Vanden Bosch gone it looks worse. I can come up with 3 options. One, they’re expecting one to be released and become available later. Two, they think someone in the draft can help them immediately. Three, the younger players will be much improved with another year under Jim Washburn.
Your guess is as good as mine, but I can guarantee you this, the Titans already know which one it is.
Worst Bracket Ever!
I probably put too much pressure on myself, but being the Sports Director I almost feel a sense of duty to perform well in my picks for the NCAA Basketball Tournament. Traditionally I’ve done well, but not won. This year, whole new ballgame.
I watched in horror as my bracket went up in flames on day 1!!! Vandy, gone… Georgetown, blownout! Notre Dame, nope… Marquette, not happening… It was bad and got worse in round two when I saw Villanova (my Final 4 pick from the South) and Kansas (my National Champ) go down.
Then I heard how everyone else was doing! I have 9 teams left in the Sweet 16 and I’ve heard stories of some people with as few as 4 and 5.
It’s called March Madness for a reason and maybe I should just start picking teams by colors or mascots!!!
Vandy and Tennessee Tourney Bound
Congratulations Tennessee and Vanderbilt, both schools are headed back to the NCAA Tournament.
Tonight the Commodores have to be smiling ear to ear with their 4th seed. Tennessee, that’s another story.
Someone please explain to me why the Volunteers are 6 seed in the Midwest bracket. They knocked off the number one and number 2 teams in the country and had an RPI of 14. I know they commity works very hard and does a phenomenal job, but the Vols got jobbed on this one.
What’s the difference? How about meeting a team like Georgetown in round 2.
Good luck to both!
Tournament Time Is Here!
For any sports fan there isn’t a much better month than March! Everyone gets caught up in March Madness!!! If you haven’t been to see tournament basketball in person the atmosphere is amazing. All of the fans, from all of the different schools with their fingers crossed and their team face the “one and done” scenario.
The madness has officially hit Music City and I’m thrilled. The SEC Men’s Tournament starts tomorrow at high noon with South Carolina and Alabama, after that it’s Tennessee and LSU at Bridgestone Arena.
This is not a “one and done” for Nashville either, Bridgestone Arena is hosting either the SEC Men or Women for the next 4 years! For that I and basketball fans everywhere owe the Nashville Sports Council and big “Thank You!!!”
Enjoy the action, remember you can see the semi-finals and finals right here on NEWS 2!!!
Time is Now For Preds
Call it a perfect storm for the Nashville Predators… Team USA’s run at the Olympics has even peaked the casual fans interest and with only 20 games to go the Predators find themselves in the thick of the playoff race in the Western Conference.
The Preds past few trips to the playoffs have been a battle for 8th or just to get in. This year they’re hoping for better. They’re 7th in the West, not exactly comfortable territory, but certainly better than being on the outside looking in.
That means every game, every 2 points is critical for Barry Trotz team and it means for fans they’ll see a team playing for the post season each night.
Now is the time for the Preds and for their fans to respond. See you tonight at Bridgestone Arena! Preds and Kings at 7:00 PM
Tonight On Sports Extra!
Hey, need YOUR help tonight on Sports Extra. We are talking Titans, Free Agency and the NFL Combine and we’d like your input. Let us know which potential Titan Free Agent you’d most like the club retain and why.
Thanks!

Dores Make Statement
Vanderbilt was hoping to make a statement to the nation last Saturday against Kentucky, they came up short losing by 2. Tonight though they may have made a bigger statement beating Georgia 96-94 in overtime.
No, it shouldn’t have been that close, but it was and they won. Vandy clearly had a UK hangover and Kevin Stallings did not duck that issue in his post game press conference. His guys answered the challenge though.
They trailed by 6 points with 53 seconds to play, they had no business winning, but they did. Jermaine Beal hit a late shot, Andre Walker hit several, so did freshman John Jenkins. NO ONE shriveled under the pressure, they stepped up and that’s what the good teams do. They win, even when they’re not suppose to.
